The R35 finished production in August 2025. Nissan has committed to the GT-R's future but announced no successor. "R36" is an enthusiast nickname, not a Nissan code name.
A new Skyline — the GT-R's historic parent line — is officially in development, positioned by Nissan as a "Heartbeat" model. The official teaser showed round quad taillights and a hood-mounted S badge. Nissan has not linked the Skyline program to a GT-R.
R35 GT-R production ended in August 2025 after an 18-year run. There is currently no GT-R in production for the first time since 2007.
A new GT-R is coming. CEO Ivan Espinosa told reporters at Nissan's long-term vision presentation that the company is investing in sports cars and has an obligation to carry on the GT-R's tradition and heritage.
Espinosa has separately floated the idea of a more affordable second sports car — "probably go and make a Silvia" — while immediately hedging: "I'm not saying I will do it." Personal enthusiasm on record, not a product plan.
Response.jp's rendering-based prediction imagines a hybrid or plug-in-hybrid built around an evolution of the VR38DETT V6, roughly 800–900 PS (up to ~1,000 PS for a NISMO), arriving 2029–2030. No named source; none of it confirmed by Nissan.
