As usable RB26DETT engine blocks grow harder to find, HKS has launched parts aimed squarely at keeping the ones already out there alive. The tuning house announced on August 11 a new cylinder liner and a separate deck-crack repair collar for the RB26DETT engine that powers the Nissan Skyline GT-R — covering the BNR32, BCNR33, and BNR34 generations.
What the new parts do
The cylinder liner is designed to let builders reuse a worn or damaged used engine block rather than source an increasingly rare new one. Once installed and machined, it allows the block to be used with finished bore sizes from 86mm to 87mm, and it's sold as a full set for one engine at ¥132,000 (tax included). HKS says it also validated the liner in high-output, high-rpm drag racing applications.
Alongside it, HKS is offering a deck-crack repair collar — a physical part, not a liquid compound, despite the "color" in its Japanese name. The collar is inserted into a head-bolt hole after liquid gasket is applied to its outer surface, sealing off the passage where a crack has connected the deck-side water jacket to the head-bolt hole. Since some head-bolt holes carry engine oil, a crack like this can let coolant and oil mix — the collar is designed to stop that. It's priced at ¥11,000 for a 12-piece kit.
Why it matters for GT-R owners
New RB26DETT blocks have become genuinely difficult to source as the R32/R33/R34 generations age — these engines stopped production decades ago. A liner and collar that let a shop bring a worn or cracked block back into usable condition, rather than hunting for an increasingly scarce replacement, are a meaningful development for anyone keeping an RB26-powered GT-R on the road or on track — in Japan or after export.
